Frequently Asked Questions

  • Not at all. Many of our students start with no previous flight experience. We’ll guide you through both ground and flight instruction from your first lesson through your certificate.

  • The best place to start is with a Discovery Flight. You’ll fly alongside one of our instructors, get an introduction to the helicopter and its controls, and experience what flight training is really like.

  • R44 flight instruction is $775 per hour, and ground instruction is $75 per hour. Discovery Flights start at $400. Total training costs vary depending on your certificate, experience, training frequency, and individual progress. We will be getting an R22 soon that will have a cheaper flight cost.

  • Yes. We offer a path from Private Pilot through Commercial, Instrument, CFI, and CFII, along with advanced training designed to help pilots build real-world skills.

  • Peak Performance Helicopters is based in Rigby, Idaho, where we provide professional helicopter flight training for students throughout Eastern Idaho. We also offer training in Pocatello, bringing our aircraft and instructors to the area so students can train closer to home.

  • The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight time to earn a Private Pilot Helicopter certificate under Part 61, although many students require additional time to become proficient and ready for their checkride. Students pursuing a professional career can continue on to Instrument, Commercial, CFI, and CFII training, with a minimum of 150 total flight hours required for a Commercial Pilot Helicopter certificate. Your individual timeline will depend on how frequently you train, weather, and your progress throughout training.
